For every ORE sitting from August 2026 onwards, bookings happen through MyGDC for the first time. If that sentence is the first you're hearing of it, you're not alone — and you've got time to prepare, but not unlimited time.
Why MyGDC and ORE booking matters more than it might sound
When a system that hundreds of people are trying to access simultaneously goes live, small frictions become big problems. A password you can't quite remember. A login that times out. A second browser tab open from earlier that logs you out of the first. None of these are disasters on a normal day — but on a day when places might fill within minutes, every minute matters.
The specific rules worth knowing
One device, one session. You can only be logged into your MyGDC account on one device at a time.
15-minute inactivity timeout. If you log in early and then step away, you may find yourself logged out and needing to log back in right when the window opens.
The "unavailable" countdown. The exam listing will show as "unavailable" for eight hours before the booking window opens. When it opens, you'll need to refresh your browser — the page won't update on its own.
"Closed — examination full" can appear for two hours, even after all places are gone.
Payment within one hour. Once you've booked a place, you have one hour to pay, or the booking isn't processed. With the Part 2 fee now at £6,967, flag this to your bank in advance — large international transactions can trigger automatic fraud holds.
A simple pre-30-June checklist for ORE Part 1 booking
- Log into MyGDC this week to confirm your credentials work
- Reset your password now if you can't remember it
- Decide which single device you'll use and make sure nothing else is logged in elsewhere
- Tell your bank to expect a large payment around this date
- Set an alarm for 14:15 UK time on 30 June — fifteen minutes before the window opens
If you're a priority candidate
Candidates nearing the five-year limit for Part 2 attempts, and those with refugee status, are offered priority access. If you believe you fall into either category and haven't heard anything, contact the GDC's examinations team well before the booking date.
Five minutes now, logging in and checking everything works, is genuinely one of the highest-value things you can do this week.
